  • System Engineering
  • Hardware Engineering
  • Networking Expertise
  • Software Programming

As discussed in our Design and Development section, ASFT, in collaboration with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT) created the Submarine Environment for Evaluation and Development (SEED) laboratory to develop and evaluate new command decision aids and reduced manning initiatives in a realistic environment. The facility provides a low-cost, easily accessible test bed for small businesses, academia, and production system developers to create and test innovative technologies without the overhead of creating their own test facilities. In support of this effort, ASFT has created a Software Developer’s Kit for SEED users that will demonstrate how their software can interact with the Tactical Control Systems via the CORBA interfaces. ASFT is producing sample CORBA interfaces for this simulation of shipboard systems. ASFT independently developed and implemented all modeling and simulation interfaces required for the SEED. ASFT is also responsible for the design and implementation of the networks required by users to support their projects, as well as the integration of new SIM/STIM subsystems into the SEED. ASFT Information Technology (IT) personnel configure the SEED to support major demonstrations to senior U.S. Navy and Congressional leaders, as well as for complex exercises to validate design concepts.

Additionally, the ASFT Team using a complete toolkit of M&S tools such as Visio, Eclipse, and Enterprise Architect during their design and development efforts. The ability to efficiently develop high level flow diagrams allows the team to develop and then implement code in a more efficient and cost effective manner. The use of these tools during our current Small Business Innovation and Research projects has ensured the Team remained on a highly accelerated timeline throughout the entire development process.
